Sioux Falls Gratia Sunday Service "Parable of the Fig Tree"

sola gratia

On Sunday, September 18, 2016, at 11:00 AM the message " was given by Minister Christine Lee at Gratia Community Church in Sioux Falls, SD.  This message was taken from, Matthew 7:16-21 and Luke 3:8.

Something very strange happened one day when Jesus and His disciples were coming from Bethany.  Jesus was hungry and wanted to get figs from a healthy fig tree, but it was not the right time of year for that.  So He cursed the tree.  This message talks about why He did.

Christine showed many verses that explain trees are often used as a type of men, and also of the nation of Israel.  Jesus never used His power for His own benefit, so He cursed the tree because it was not fruitful.  This was the condemnation of promise without fulfillment.  God's first command to men was to be fruitful.  However, being fruitful doesn't always mean how many numbers of people are added, it also means how much love believers have for God and for each other.  That is the fruit of love.  The wedding clothes of the church the bride of Christ are their righteous deeds.  Ultimately, it is always time to bear the fruit of one kind or another.

After the service everyone present discussed the many ways this story should be applied to their lives.  Emphasis was put on thinking of more ways to try and reach the unsaved.

After reflection and sharing everyone had lunch and fellowship in the conference room.
