On Sunday, September 4 at 11:00 AM the sermon "Put On The Whole Armour of God" was given by Minister Christine Lee at Gratia Community Church in Sioux Falls, SD. This message was taken from Ephesians 6:10-20, Revelation 2:1-7, Isaiah 11:4-5, I Corinthians 15:55-57, Romans 8:35 and Psalms 127:1.
Since Paul was in chains in jail at Rome when he wrote this letter he would see Roman soldiers walk by every day. God often had His prophets use simple word pictures to illustrate important messages to His people. The Lord Himself used parables in the same way. Here the Lord gave Paul the image of the soldiers to illustrate to the believer what he what needs to fight the devil.
Christine noted several important points about the armor of God. The battle exists and if Christians don't join in they will be defeated and enslaved spiritually. The devil is strong and will not be defeated without remembering God the first love, fighting in the power of God's might, putting on the full armor of God, and fighting at every level. There were too many points about the six pieces of armor to be mentioned here. The instruction to pray always and have daily discipline was pointed out in this sermon as well.
After the service everyone present discussed the many ways this story should be applied to their Christian lives. Many comparisons were made to the actions of an army as well.
After reflection and sharing everyone participated in the Lord's Holy Communion, and then had lunch and fellowship in the conference room.
