On Sunday, August 7 at 11:00 AM the sermon "We Have Piped, And You Have Not Danced" was given by Minister Christine Lee at Gratia Community Church in Sioux Falls, SD. This message was taken from Matthew 11:1-17.
Interestingly, as far as can be known from the Bible, the only time Jesus met John the Baptist is when Jesus went to be baptized by him. Near the end of his life for whatever reason, John sent his disciples to obtain verification from Jesus that He was who he claimed to be. Jesus used this occasion to show His displeasure with that generation. Not only did they have the witness and preaching of John, but they also had all the miracles Jesus performed in their presence. Still, they refused to respond the call of their true Messiah. They would not dance or lament.
Christine emphasized in verse six that even now as was then people are offended and stumble at the Lord's call to be saved. He loves them so much and does so much to bring them to salvation, but they refuse to respond. There is an echo of God's love in the air by the Holy Spirit, but even the believers have a self-centered faith, and not one centered on God. She asked those present to not have a hypocritical faith, but one desiring to serve God and love the lost of this time.
After the service everyone present discussed John the Baptist and the need for everybody to have more love for the lost people of Sioux Falls. Prayers were held for the church, the retreat and the needs of the members.
After reflection and sharing everyone had lunch and fellowship in the conference room.
