On Wednesday June 29, 2016 at 7:00 PM the message "If You Don't Have a Sword, Sell Your Cloak and Buy One" was given by Minister Christine Lee at Gratia Community Church in Sioux Falls, SD.  The message was taken from Luke 22:35-38, Ephesians 6:17 and Genesis 25:29-34.

The time came near the end of Jesus' ministry where He counseled His followers to give up some of their normal daily routines and obtain swords for fighting.  This message is about what the cloak and the swords mean.

Christine taught the meaning of the sword to be the Word of God as found in the second passage.  She interpreted the cloak to represent one's daily needs and protective covering.  So people should put away these things and devote them selves more to pursue the things of the Word of God.  The world is entering an extraordinary time which was the case at the end of Jesus' ministry.  She used the passage about Esau selling his birthright for a bowl of pottage to illustrate there will be times when the believer should sacrifice some material comfort to have more of the Word.

Bob had a question about what the word Ebenezer meant form the Scripture.  The Hebrew meaning is a building stone of help.

Luke shared there is two sides to the purse and scrip.  Sometimes you will be helped by believers providing for you, and sometimes you will be doing the provision for others.
