Sioux Falls Gratia Friday Prayer Meeting “Blessed Are Those That Mourn”

On Friday June 10, 2016 at 7:00 PM the message "Blessed Are Those That Mourn" was given by Minister Christine Lee at Gratia Community Church in Sioux Falls, SD.  This message was taken from Matthew 5:4 and Luke 18:9-14.

This message is about the second of the great Beatitudes "blessed are they that mourn".  Those that are blessed are happy and full of joy, but in this case they are also "comforted".  The second passage gives a good example of someone (the publican) that mourned because of his sin, and was forgiven as a result.

Christine stated there are two types of mourning: personal and public.  She used the publican as an example and referred to Psalms 51:17 "the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit".  Her example of public mourning was when Jesus wept because of the sin of His people.  She also shared how she had personally experienced this earlier in the day weeping for her burden for the ministry.

After this everyone present prayed to be broken in spirit, for the needs of the church including the upcoming summer retreat, and for a new building to worship in.  Then they prayed for each other.  Specific needs of several members of the church were noted including Qurdosh's friend in need of a job.  As they were leaving they learned one member Linda had just lost her mother and they comforted her.
