On Friday June 3, 2016 at 7:00 PM the message "Faith of Bartimaeus" was given by Minister Christine Lee at Gratia Community Church in Sioux Falls, SD. This message was taken from Mark 10:46.52 and Isaiah 42:3.
It is often noted in the Scriptures that Jesus' own people the Jews rejected Him in general while He was here on earth, but many of the Gentiles did and would receive Him. In this passage, the Jews could see well and did not recognize Jesus as Messiah because of their spiritual arrogance, but this blind man knew.
Christine shared several points about this man. He was important enough to the Lord to be mentioned in three gospels. He as a blind man was in the lowest possible position in life and had nothing, yet he gained everything most important to him. When he called out "Jesus, thou son of David" he recognized Jesus as Messiah based only on what he heard about Him. Jesus looks at man differently than they look at each other. All people have the same disease of blindness as Bartimaeus, only it is spiritual. She also asked the question, do the members of her church have the same desire as he did. Some believers seek God and repent, some do not.
After this everyone present prayed for themselves, for the needs of the church, and then they prayed for each other. Specific needs of several members of the church were noted. Surely prayer is the only hope for all the peoples' needs to be met, and for deliverance from sin. Many currently have no desire to see the Lord and have no great faith like Bartimaeus.
