On Sunday May 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM the message "Breakup Your Fallow Ground" was given by Minister Christine Lee at Gratia Community Church in Sioux Falls, SD. This message was taken from Hosea 10:12-13, Matthew 13:1-9 and Matthew 13:18-23.
The first passage speaks about one of the key themes in the Bible, plowing or breaking up the hard ground. The other passages make it clear this hard or rocky soil or ground is the hearts of men. God is trying to reach into and redeem the hearts of men, but there are problems with these hearts that make it a hard thing to accomplish.
Christine stated there are four types of ground. The first is where the seed of the gospel goes by the wayside or only into the brain, but not into the heart very deeply. The second is stony ground so the seed doesn't get a chance to take root. The third is ground with thorns or weeds that grow up and choke out the Word. The fourth is good ground broken up and cleaned of weeds and rocks so the seed can take root and grow strong and bear a lot of fruit for God's glory. She also said we should be diligent farmers and take good care of our soil all year long.
Bruce further explained the word fallow in the Hebrew means unplowed, and it also means not plowed for the current season. He also thought there should be another category of soil that is just so hard packed the rain runs off instead of sinking in and the roots have a hard time of penetrating deeper into the ground. He used part of his yard as an example.
Alan shared his prayer concerns for some of his family members and was admonished that he is now the spiritual leader of his family and can help ensure they will all come to Christ.
After reflection, prayer and sharing everyone had lunch and fellowship in the dining room.
