On July,2, Sioux Falls Gratia Community Church held Sunday service with the message titled "Jesus Healed a Crippled Woman on the Sabbath." The message was taken from Luke 13:10-17. They also read Matthew 9:12-13, Matthew 11:28-30 and Isaiah 42:3 along the message.
Jesus healed a woman on the Sabbath in one of the synagogues. When he did the Pharisees and rulers of the synagogues protested saying it was breaking the commandment of not working on the Sabbath. Why did Jesus teach this was the place and the time to heal?
The minister showed from Matthew 9:12-13 God desired mercy and not sacrifice. This poor woman had suffered so long and needed mercy and help. The house of God is supposed to be a place of mercy and help. This is a lesson that believers today are not heeding, and that is often the reason they are suffering needlessly. Jesus wants to heal the whole person, body, soul and spirit, but the spirit needs to be healed first, because sin is the ultimate cause of sickness. The spirit of man longs for and has great value to God, but the flesh wants to sin. As long as the sinner is bent over like the woman they can only see the ground and not look up to see God and see the big picture. Their focus is on earth, not on heaven.
After the service, the members present discussed how this message related to them. They contemplated their own worth before God and their own attention to his call on their lives.
