Sioux Falls Gratia Sunday Service “Blessed Are they that Mourn”

sola gratia

On Sunday, Jan 15 at 11:00 AM the message "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted" was given by Minister Christine Lee at Gratia Community Church in Sioux Falls.  This message was taken from Matt 5:4.

The message was about the second great Beatitude, it also seems to be a great paradox or contradiction to the normal way of human thinking.  How can one possibly be blessed when they are mourning? By looking at different bible verses, members got to understand the two types of mourning: mourning for the fallen world and the people who are under the power of sin; mourning for themselves as they are sinners before the Lord. The Lord himself wept over the sin and unbelief of man, and his soul was sorrowful unto death in the Garden of Gethsemane while submitting himself in humble obedience to the death of the cross. As the followers of Jesus Christ, Christians ought to follow Jesus' steps and mourn for the fallen land and lost souls. Bible also gives an example about how people should humble themselves and repent before God. In Luke 18, the tax collector was sorrowful when he beat his chest and pleaded with God to have mercy on him. Believers should examine themselves and mourn for their own sins and ask forgiveness from God.

After the service, members shared their grace and reflections from the message. Their understanding of this message was deepened and enriched by hearing each other's sharing and encouragement. Members also prepared a delicious meal for the church family. May God bless Gratia Church abundantly.
